EKPHRASIS TO SOUTHERN UTAH -Poetry

EKPHRASIS TO SOUTHERN UTAH -Poetry

Political madness ceases.

And petty problems don’t exist.

As the blackness of the heavens licks the red sandstone.

A dusting of glitter in the sky twinkles surrounded by colorful gas clouds.

The silence of the night, interrupted by the shrill coyote howl.

Tranquil Southern Utah! Where man ceases and nature rules.

I never want to leave.

Sun shines above the formations,

As rays of light turn orange and red.

The deep blue sky welcomes the day, pure and clean.

Snakes, scorpions, and feral dogs wander through the red dirt.

The wind blows and the Colorado river cuts, as they continue to reshape the land.

Tranquil Southern Utah! Where man ceases and nature rules.

I never want to leave.

ESCAPE TO NATURE -Poetry

 ESCAPE TO NATURE

Run away with me, let us leave.

No longer city dwellers.

Rolling mountains and pure air,

Dark rich dirt, and wildflowers.

We will live on the land, away from the madness.

We will take time to watch the Blue Jays and Cardinals.

We will chase fireflies at night.

Run away with me, stay with me.

Forever in nature, we will be free.

MISINFORMATION FLOW -Poetry

 MISINFORMATION FLOW

I don’t know how to think,

I don’t know how to be,

I don’t know how to process

and I don’t know how to see.

Today you tell me eggs are bad.

Tomorrow, you say they are essential.

I should take more rests and breaks,

No! Work harder to reach my potential.

Vaccines will save my life,

But possibly are deadly.

Enrich my meals with only meat,

Oops, now it’s a carbohydrate medley.

Don’t trust the red political party,

They will only fill you with lies,

Yet be wary of the blue.

They pull the wool over your eyes.

Be sure never to diet,

It will destroy your metabolism.

Oh, you’re getting too big,

You must diet to avoid an aneurysm.

This medicine will save your life,

The facts hidden by big pharma.

Put your faith in God,

No, you must only trust Karma.

This life is confusing,

With chaos, lies, and deceit.

Everyone fighting to get ahead,

As they step on you and cheat.

How do I navigate?

I don’t really know.

How do I keep facts straight

From the misinformation flow?

I don’t know how to think,

I don’t know how to be,

I don’t know how to process

and I don’t know how to see.

THE YESTERDAY ME HAS DIED -Poetry

THE YESTERDAY ME HAS DIED

Don’t compare myself with tomorrow,

For today is the best version of me

I can improve myself going forward,

but yesterday did flee.

How easy it is to remain in the past

And get stuck on what can’t be

Cloud my vision, blind my hope

-Unable to see.

The person of yesterday,

No longer exists in me

I change, I learn, I move forward.

I set my spirit free.

A NET FILLED WITH HOLES -Poetry

A NET FILLED WITH HOLES

Do not catch your dreams in a net filled with holes,

For you’ll waste your energy chasing,

And squander your time with impossible goals,

As you put your dreams in a net filled with holes.

Do not hold onto love that is filled with burs,

For it deceives and beguiles,

But the only heart that loved, was yours

As it shreds yours apart with its burs.

Do not chase a high with a chemical that burn

For the excitement only lasts a moment,

And then you’ll be left empty, only to yearn,

For another chance to chase the chemical that will only burn.

DOUBTFUL -Poetry

 DOUBTFUL

I am lost. I don’t know where to turn. What is wrong with our world today? We have it all. The greatest abundance, and yet we keep searching for more.

I keep searching for more.

What am I looking for? Will I even recognize it when I find it?

Doubtful.

I’ve fulfilled the American dream. My comforts exceed the wealthiest from centuries before.

Blankets, clothes, automobiles, food, freedom, appliances, toys,

and on and on and on...........

But will I be happy?

Doubtful

How can I even be sad with so much?

Women have rights.

Death rates have decreased.

Medical revives.

Opportunities present.

And yet, why am I searching for more?

Why am I searching for more?

Will I ever be satisfied?

Doubtful

SUN WARM BOULDERS -Poetry

 SUN WARM BOULDERS

Within the valley of Death Hollow

Sprinkles rare exposure to straight sunrays,

Unblocked by towering canyon walls,

Walls that limit heat and penetration,

As the hikers move in and out of forty-degree pools of stagnant water.

The best moments in life

Are the ones that try your resolve,

That pushes you beyond your capacity for coldness,

A shocking intercourse of near freezing temperature,

Intruding your core and shutting down command; ability.

Fighting against hyperthermia, the limbs must swim, generate heat, and cannot stop, even for a second, for that is when death will take over.

Once out of the pools, the dripping wet hikers’ blue toes and fingers,

Have no more to give, but they must. They have to keep going as the

Cool winds freeze the water droplets on their skin.

Where is heat?

Where is a respite from the torturous cold?

And there, out of place, out of context,

Is a giant black boulder, if placed by God.

Somehow, the boulder has captured the heat from the

Elusive sun, and the hiker can steal the heat from the boulder,

Until forced to swim through the next pool of possible death.
