DO YOU STAY TRUE FOR WHO IS INSIDE -Poetry :

DO YOU STAY TRUE FOR WHO IS INSIDE

Cry, and you cry alone.

Spend money, and you have many friends.

For the shallow man cares not for you.

When you are in need, no one lends.

Don the brands, and others envy.

Wear the fake mask, and others flock.

Be yourself, and everyone flees.

Speak your heart, and others squawk.

So, is there room for a unique you?

Will others see your glory?

Do you stay true to who is inside,

Or, for others, do you change your story?

MOTHERHOOD LOST-Poetry /

 MOTHERHOOD LOST

Motherhood brings no glory, though it swells the heart within.

Exciting and painful for those who take the journey.

Bound by the demands, no longer free.

Stripping the mom of self, leaving her talents as a has-been.

From sun up to sun down, the mother hardly sleeps.

Much pleasure from her baby, yet the mother ridden with guilt.

Bonding and growing; relationships built.

A chore to feed the baby; the baby always eats.

Perhaps at times, she despises her role, she loves her kids with all her heart.

Giving her life for the child, she would sacrifice all.

But inward, her heart aches as she watches herself fall.

YOU WILL LONG FOR ME -Poetry /

YOU WILL LONG FOR ME

You will see the carefree and long for me,

The one who made you forget, who balmed the pain.

What happened to the colors in the mountain,

And the energy of living?

You sent it away when you lied.

When you pretended to be who you weren’t.

I made life worth living, brought joy to your soul.

How does it feel? To have it all leave.

You shouldn’t have lied.

You will never have it like that again.

And when you see people living and enjoying life,

That could have been you.

And when you go through your gray existence.

You will think of me.

And I will be gone.

HOW DO YOU -Poetry /

HOW DO YOU

How do you hold on to what is right?

How do you stop them from extinguishing your light?

How do forget and not bemoan?

-When they threw the last stone.

How do you keep things from falling apart?

How do you forgive, and create a new start?

How do you pretend that all is well?

-When they dragged you through their hell.

Is it time to close the door?

Is it time to demand more?

Is it time to end the charade?

-You must do it. You must be brave!

I KNEEL AT THE ALTER -Poetry /

 I KNEEL AT THE ALTER

I kneel at the alter and consider my actions from the week,

Of the times I said too much or was silent when I should speak.

I think of the good I gave, and I try to forget the bad.

I smile at the joyful memories and tear up with the sad.

I kneel at the altar and cover my face from shame.

I think of when I was honest and the people I did maim.

Yet still, there is time for me to change the wrongs I have inflicted.

But, then, I could die tonight; my time here is not predicted.

I cannot wait for the future to change my sinful heart.

I must vow this very minute; this is the time to start.

When I leave these holy walls, I’ll strive for a better me,

And give my best to God, and from Satan, I will flee.

So, as I kneel at the altar, I will take on God’s name.

I will walk with my Savior and His Good Will I will proclaim!

THE FAMILY PET -Poetry /

THE FAMILY PET

Down the stairs of shaggy brown carpet,

Hunting through the legs of tables and chairs,

Beneath low-hanging cabinets and desks,

Lurches, the mighty German shepherd

To be stopped by nothing as it seeks for something to herd.

With a primal force that sends the dog on a search,

Pushing and prodding the toddler,

Behind the cat, it shoves,

shepherding, from the mighty working dog

To keep everything in line.

Back and forth across the green linoleum,

Running in circles through the house,

Around the walls goes the laser light.

Crazy becomes the canine,

To heed to a controlling obsession.

Through the air wafts the puppy’s odors,

Releasing its toxic smell,

Saturating the air, the stench carries and spreads.

Bloated, the dog’s stomach expands,

To torture the inhabitants of the home with gas.

Within its family, the dog plays, and protects,

Living as a human.

Together, they bring each other joy,

Creating an entire lifetime of memories for the dog.

-To the human, it feels like seconds until the dog passes.

-gone too quick

PIG DUNG -Memoir /

 PIG DUNG

Of course, you wouldn’t eat a sandwich after it fell into the muck of a pig pen. But give it a few weeks of scooping manure, and you might find yourself one day picking up that same sandwich, wiping the brown stuff on the side of your pants leg, and taking a bite.

Dignity in your back pocket, headphones around your head, goo smeared up and down your arms, and a bandana around your mouth so you don’t inhale it in. Don’t look the sow in the eyes; shove the large body aside, then jump to the ledge when they start to fight. Squeegee the feces to the pen’s drain; blink a million times as drops of dung splash in your eyes. Take a break and watch the rush hour of mice running across the raptors overhead.

Strip and wash your clothes as soon as you get home. Add an extra scoop of detergent and a second spin cycle. It doesn’t matter. The smell never leaves. Foamy bubbles dribble down your head. Wash again and then one more time. It doesn’t matter. The smell never leaves. Come home from a long shift at the farm to find the living room filled with the local Boy Scout meeting. Don’t look your crushes in the eyes. Run, dash; mortified.

Is it worth it? Where else can you get a job as a thirteen-year-old girl?
