THE FATE OF A STRAY -Poetry

 THE FATE OF A STRAY

Against my skin the fur
Smooth to my touch.
Inside a park
The lone dog searches for a friend.
Moving across the lawn
Eerie shadows heighten the senses.
A wining escapes the canine
No longer wanting to be alone.
Protruding his bones
Suggest hunger and neglect.
Searching for love
The dog’s eyes peer from sunken sockets.
Unable to take him home with me
Having a landlord who hates animals.
What is this creature’s fate
-To die on the street or in a shelter?
